SUCH AN ADVANTAGE

1 CORINTHIANS 2:9-12

1 CORINTHIANS 2:9-12 NKJ
9 But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

One thing we all have to beware of is taking a verse and making a doctrinal position from that verse without context.   I have heard people quote verse nine regarding eye has not seen, nor ear heard . . .  and stopped with that verse.  It lends itself to the thought that we can never know what God has done for us.  But the thought continues.  These letters were not written in chapter and verse.  Man added those later as a helpful reference.

Verse ten starts with but.  But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.  We did not know all the wonderful things God has prepared for those of us who love Him, so God gave us His Holy Spirit to help us.   We were not able to grasp these amazing spiritual truths, so God gave us His Holy Spirit to help us know what God has prepared for us.

We were in the dark until God gave us His Spirit to teach and guide us.  Such an advantage.

APPLICATION

Take the limits off yourself and the Holy Spirit's help.  Don't talk about what you don't know and how hard it is to read your bible.  Instead, talk about the mighty Holy Spirit who lives in you and is helping you.  He is showing you things and revealing God's purposes and plans.

You may not think that talking this way makes a difference, but the scriptures indicate your words make a major impact.  Proverbs 18:21 says our words can bring life or death.  That would include areas of receiving the Holy Spirit's help.  Speak life.  Speak He is your teacher and guide.  Speak you are spiritually sharp and quick, not dull and slow.

We have such an advantage.  Let's make sure He has the freedom to work in our lives.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit.  I am so blessed that He is teaching and guiding me.  I am so grateful for such an advantage.
