GOD'S BLESSED PEOPLE

GALATIANS 3:9, 26-29

 GALATIANS 3:9, 26-29 NKJ
9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Having grown up in church, I can recall people referring to the Jews as God's chosen, blessed people.  I have no argument with that statement.  But too often, church people don't follow up their remarks regarding the Jews with the even greater reality of what we are because of our faith in Christ.

The message of Galatians contrasts works or human effort vs. faith in God's grace through Christ.  Paul reminds the people of Galatia that Abraham's faith was what gave him righteous, right standing with God.  And those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham.  Abraham was the blood ancestor of the Jews and the spiritual ancestor of those of us who believe.  Paul ends the chapter by declaring that all of us who have put our faith in Jesus are sons of God.  God makes no positional distinction as to Jew, Gentile, gender, or status; it's being in Christ that matters.  And in Christ, we are sons, blessed, part of Abraham's spiritual lineage and heirs of God.  It just doesn't get any more "chosen" and "blessed" than that.

APPLICATION

Because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we are the blessed of God.  Because of these scriptures, we have a right to say about ourselves what God says about us.  So never refer to yourself as cursed or unlucky or second class.  You belong to a powerful family with a strong lineage and big blessings.  In Christ, you are blessed.

PRAYER

Thank you, Father.  You have made it possible to be one of Your chosen blessed children.
