WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOUT US?

LUKE 24:44-45

LUKE 24:44-45 NKJ
44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Jesus read and relied on the scriptures.  In this same chapter, He expounded to a couple of His followers what the Scriptures said about Himself (vs. 27).

Now He is explaining to His disciples.  He started with the law of Moses, the first five books of the Old Testament, and then went to the Prophets and the Psalms.  He opened their understanding that they might see Him in what the Scriptures said about Him.

What is interesting is that Jesus took two different groups to the Scriptures.  He did not simply say, hey, I am risen from the dead, and that's enough.   No, He showed them from God's Word who He was and what He had come to do.  Jesus placed enormous value on the Scriptures, and he communicated this to those who followed Him the closest.

APPLICATION

A couple of big takeaways here.

One - the scriptures are still the best way to "see" Jesus and know who He is and what He has done.

Two - and this is also big.  The Scriptures also tell us who we are and what we are destined to do.  In Paul's letters to the churches, Galatians, Romans, Ephesians, and in the other letters written to the church by Paul and John, we see an unveiling of who we are because of our union with Christ.  We are new creations, God's chosen, blessed, accepted, healed, strengthened, and the list goes on.

We must do the same thing Jesus did.  Find out from the Scriptures the things that pertain to us.  Find out what is written about us because we are in Christ.

This is an amazing thought, but the growing Christian life hinges on this point.  We are not what we used to be.  We are born again, and it's the scriptures, not the mirror or other people, that tell us who we are and what we can do.

PRAYER

Dear Father, please open my understanding that I might see Jesus in a greater way.  And that I might see the wonderful potential that I have because of my relationship with Your Son.
