EVEN JESUS COULDN'T DO THIS

JOHN 11:36-37, 45-46 NKJV

36 Then the Jews said, "See how He loved him!"

37 And some of them said, "Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?"

45 Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him. 46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things Jesus did.

Wait, what? Jesus could do anything, right?

Actually, no. But we do no disservice to the Lord by remembering He operated as a man anointed by the Holy Spirit.

In fact, by acknowledging this truth, it makes seeing Him as our example of how to live more relatable.

Jesus could not please everyone. Jesus could not convince everyone that He was the Christ, the Son of God.

When He wept at the tomb of Lazarus, one group remarked on how much Jesus loved Lazarus. But some standing there blamed Jesus for Lazarus' death. They questioned why He had not kept Lazarus from dying.

But it gets even more dramatic. After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, there were two responses.

Many believed in Him. They witnessed a miracle and chose to believe Jesus was the Messiah.

But some who witnessed the same miracle chose to believe Jesus was a threat. They went and informed on Him to the Pharisees.

So, even Jesus could not make everyone choose Him as the answer and a blessing to Israel. Some saw Him as a major problem.

And Jesus could not make everyone okay with what He did. He was sinless, and people still misunderstood Him.

APPLICATION:

There is an application to these verses. If Jesus could be misunderstood, so can we.

If Jesus was not viewed by everyone as a blessing, why do we think we will win everyone over?

In the days we are living in, the opposition to those who love and follow Jesus Christ is only increasing. But knowing this helps us with our focus. We simply keep living for Him and we continue to reach out to others. Not everyone will believe or trust our motives. But we can stay the course just as He did. We'll be glad now and even gladder in heaven.
