A GLIMPSE OF HEAVEN
REVELATION 4:8-11 NKJ
8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
"Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!"
9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 "You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created."
This must have been mind-boggling for John to come into God's throne room and see these amazing sights.
The four living creatures with six wings and eyes all around and within. And they are flying around saying holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come. Then the twenty-four elders fall down and worship and throw their crowns before the throne of God. Whew! This is not a place with casual angels floating around like fat babies with tiny wings playing harps. This is not a quiet place. This is not a place where we will saunter up to the throne and say, Hi Father. This will be a place of holy awe and reverence. A place of worship and honor. A place where we will join our voices with the billions and worship God and say, "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created."
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord.
When we read chapters like this, we get a glimpse of what heaven will be like. And we get a glimpse of the majesty and wonder of God. We also get a glimpse of how small we are but how blessed we are to be part of God's family and kingdom.
So, the best way to apply this passage is not to wait until we get to heaven to worship God. We can start right where we are now. Then heaven won't be such a shock to our system, and we'll experience a bit of heaven here on earth. He inhabits the praises of His people.
Heavenly Father, You are worthy of my praise and worship. You created all things, and You created me. Thank You for greater insight as to how big and awesome You are.
