A SCRIPTURALLY CLASSY GROUP

ACTS 17:10-11 NKJ
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Paul and Silas had been following their typical ministry model in the city of Thessalonica.  They go into the synagogue of the Jews and reason with them out of the scriptures regarding Jesus as the Christ.

And as was typical many believed, and many did not and became envious.  So, Paul and Silas were run out of Thessalonica and headed to a town called Berea.  In Berea, they ran into what the bible calls fair-minded or noble people, we might say today, classy people.  These Jews received the word eagerly and then searched the scriptures daily to see if what Paul and Silas were preaching was true.  No drama, no fuss, no riots, just a mature, humble perspective of the scriptures and a classy approach to God's word.

APPLICATION

This approach is not just classy; it's smart.  To search the scriptures to confirm what is being proclaimed is highly commendable.  The term noble fair-minded is not used again to describe any other group of people.  It's also interesting to note that because of this classy approach, many believed in Jesus, including some of the leading men and women in that city.

May we all learn to search the scriptures daily to confirm the teaching we receive and the whispers of our hearts.  We can also become a spiritually classy group.

PRAYER

Thank You, Father, for Your word.  It reveals You and Your truth to me, and I am very grateful.
