WHAT TO DO WITH GOD'S WORD

PROVERBS 6:20-23 NKJ
20 My son, keep your father's command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother.
21 Bind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
22 When you roam, they will lead you;
When you sleep, they will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

Even though the instructions are about keeping the commandments and laws of mother and father, we can make the connection to God's word without a stretch.

Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck. This would be a very intentional close relationship with God's word. Putting God's words into your heart on a regular basis. Keeping God's word close. Nothing casual or haphazard about this proverb.

Why? Why be so intentional and focused on God's word? Verses 22-23 give us the answer. With a consciousness of God's word, they have the ability to lead, protect and speak into our lives. God's word is a lamp and a light shining through the darkness that surrounds us. God's word gives us correction without demeaning us. It produces life in us.

That's quite a list of benefits. The guidance, wisdom, and instruction we need are found in God's word. And in the days we are living in, we need light and correction and help.

APPLICATION:

What does God's word say is a great way to filter through the many voices that come our way in the days we are living in.

There are so many experts, coaches, trainers, and gurus constantly putting out their wisdom and paths to success. But often, we don't know these people or what their lives have produced. How do we sift through all the noise? By taking God's word seriously. By putting His word in our hearts and beginning to practice His word in our lives we gain access to the wisdom of the ages. Not the wisdom of the ancients. But rather the wisdom of the Creator of heaven and earth. The one who formed the world by His wisdom. God’s wisdom and instruction and light is relevant today and one thousand years from now.

So, make God's word the main voice in your life. It will guide you, help you, enlighten you and show you the way you should go. And don't forget the Holy Spirit, who will always lead us in complete harmony with God's word.

We are blessed!

PRAYER:

Help me, Father, develop a greater love and appreciation for Your word. It is such a help and blessing in my life.
