THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

John 8:11-12 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

This amazing chapter begins with an amazing story. A woman caught in adultery is brought to Jesus with the question - do we stone her to death or not?

Jesus, not moved by their pressure, gets God’s wisdom on the matter then dismisses the accusers by a simple statement – the one without sin throw the first stone.

Jesus does not condemn the woman either but releases her to go and to stop sinning. The next statement by Him summarizes what He just did. He is the light of the world. His way of dealing with sin is light, not condemning, but not condoning either. Go and sin no more is very clear but so is neither do I condemn you. He gave the woman another chance to get it right.

APPLICATION

Jesus not only lived a sinless spotless life He provided an example for us. After releasing the woman caught in adultery, He stated that if we follow Him, we will not walk in darkness but have the light of life.

Not condemning people is walking in the light. Not condoning their sin is walking in the light. It’s so easy to point fingers yet everyone has things they deal with.

As we walk in the light, following Him, we’ll give chances for people to get it right without giving permission to keep sinning.

PRAYER

Thank You, Lord for not condemning me and my sin but providing a solution and giving me the power to change. Let me be an example of Your light to my world.
