YOU ARE AN OVERCOMER PART 2

1 JOHN 5:3-5 NKJ 
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 

Yesterday we saw that we are overcomers because the Greater One is living in us, the Holy Spirit, who is greater than Satan.  We are overcomers because of who lives in us.   

In the passage for today, we see another reason we are overcomers, and we see how overcoming becomes part of our lives.  

The apostle John writing to believers encourages them in verse three that keeping God's commandments is not too difficult.  Not too difficult for believers because whatever is from God overcomes the world.   

We need to abandon the idea that God and Satan are on equal footing.  Nope, not true!  God is infinitely stronger, smarter, and better.  And anyone who has been born of God, God's child, is already an overcomer.  A born overcomer.  This is a bit of a repeated theme from yesterday when John wrote, you are of God.   

Therefore, being born of God makes us an overcomer.  And how we see this overcoming lived out is a result of our faith.  This is how we become overcomers.  We believed Jesus is the Son of God and confessed Him as our Lord and Savior.   

That act of faith changed us.  We became new creations born of God.  Jesus called it being born again.  This act of faith is what started us down the overcoming road, and this faith is how we continue down that same road.  

APPLICATION

One of the ways we overcome the world and all it throws our way is by our faith.  We believe in our hearts and then act accordingly.  That action is a function of  what we do or what we say.  This is how we were born of God and how we walk with Him.   

No longer are we acting as if God has abandoned us.  No longer are we speaking that the enemy is dominating our lives.  We believe that through God, we can overcome despite what things currently look like.  Before everything appears strong in our lives, we believe we are overcomers.  We are born of God; and by His grace, we will overcome the fear, negativity, sickness and disease, despair, lack, and hopelessness that is in the world. So face the day overcomers and go get'em.  

PRAYER

Dear Father, I am born of You.  I am Your child, and You don't produce losers.  Thank You, I am an overcomer, and You are glorified in my life.
