TWO THINGS JESUS DID NOT LIKE

LUKE 13:13-16 NKJ 
13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. 
14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.” 
15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? 16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?” 

 Jesus healed a lady who had been bent over for eighteen years.  She was unable to stand up straight until Jesus fixed that problem.  He healed her, and she was made straight, and she glorified God.   

But in the fixing one problem, Jesus encountered another.  The ruler of the synagogue where Jesus was teaching was really ticked off that Jesus healed the woman on the Sabbath.  Jesus bluntly answered this guy and called him a hypocrite.  On the Sabbath, people could take care of their oxen and donkeys, so why couldn't this woman be taken care of.   

Jesus said it was Satan that had caused this physical bondage in the woman, and He did not like the works of Satan.  It was hypocrisy that caused someone to care for their animals more than one of God's covenant children, and Jesus did not like that either.   

Jesus never said don't care for animals on the Sabbath.  He did show that God's people were important, more important than keeping some man-made religious law.   

APPLICATION 

We have to appreciate Jesus' attitude toward sickness and hypocrisy.  If He did not like either, then neither should we.  We should want to see people loosed from the debilitating effects of sickness regardless of if it fits with our tradition or theological viewpoint.  And we should do our best to eliminate hypocrisy from our lives.  We, like Jesus, love people and want God's best for them.   

PRAYER 

Dear Father, thank You that You are still the Healer and thank You that You love people.  I do too! I love what You love, and I do not like what You do not like.
