THE LORD MY HELP

PSALM 121:1-2 NKJ 
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— 
From whence comes my help? 
2 My help comes from the Lord, 
Who made heaven and earth. 

OBSERVATION: 

This entire Psalm is about God's help and His ability to protect His people.   

He does not take naps, and He does not sleep. He has no off days or bad moods. He can protect and preserve us from all evil.   

We get no indication that David wrote this Psalm, but it would make perfect sense if he was the author.   

David had believed in and experienced God's help and protection. From the massive killing machine of Goliath. From bears and lions. From a half-mad king and various foreign warriors. David was protected. He had some close calls, but he came out on the winning side.   

So, when David speaks of looking to God for help, this is a confidence born from experience.   

My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. What an amazing statement. The scope of God's help is measured by His creation of heaven and earth. When we see help from that perspective, it builds our confidence.   

David, or the author, never references looking to man for help. He states that the Lord is his source of help. And that should be more than enough.   

APPLICATION: 

One of the verses I encouraged the church to memorize and speak this year is Hebrew 13:5-6. These verses speak of God being our helper. 

One of the most helpful things you can do for your faith is to speak what God says. The Hebrew verses say that we can boldly say the Lord is my helper. If the scripture tells us to boldly say something, there is a solid profitable reason for doing so.   

As you begin to declare that the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, is your helper, your faith will rise.   

So boldly say I am looking to God for my help. He is well able to help me, and I am well able to win in this life.   

PRAYER: 

Dear Lord, thank You for being there to help me. With You as my helper, who can stop me?
