Spiritual Words; Spiritual Life

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
John 6:63 NKJV

Jesus has just preached His most unpopular sermon. Basically, it boiled down to eat my flesh and drink my blood (Verse 53).

Of course, Jesus was not speaking of His literal flesh and blood. But by accepting Him, anyone who received His death and sacrifice for our sins would be partaking of Him.

This went over the heads of many of His followers, and they stopped following Him.

Jesus then gave us insight into all of His words; they are spiritual words. His words connect on a spiritual level. The beauty of spiritual words is that anyone can receive them. Not just the exceptionally bright or highly educated.

APPLICATION:

Knowing His words are spiritual helps us work through the Bible, especially those many, many times where His word does not make sense to our reasoning and intellect.

So, when the scriptures say to speak to the mountain, this is a spiritual truth. When the scripture says to believe before we see (walking by faith), it’s a spiritual truth. When the scriptures encourage me to put others first or seek God or sow financial seeds, these are spirit and life.

So even though I may not always get it at first, I keep following Him. Peter said it best in Verse 68 in response to the Lord asking the twelve if they were leaving, “and to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

PRAYER:

Lord, I receive Your words and all the words in the Bible as spiritual words. They are on a higher level, and they are life to me. Thank you for your words.
