MORE CONFIDENCE IN GOD

 PSALM 18:1-3 NKJ
18 I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.

My bible has a note before this psalm. It says David wrote this psalm when the Lord delivered him from King Saul, who tried to kill him numerous times. But during the course of his lifetime, David had other people try to kill him. And God delivered him time after time. Here David is once again expressing who God is to him. We will see this pattern throughout the Psalms. David never stops expressing his heart for God and declaring the greatness of God.

David calls the Lord his strength and declares his love for the Lord. David, the warrior, was also David, the worshipper, and he tapped into a key to greater faith. Expressing his heart for God and his belief in who God was to him was a powerful faith builder. I do not believe this was hype. David loved God and trusted God, and it shows.

The Lord is my rock, fortress, and deliverer. Those are strong adjectives, and they paint a picture of who God was to David.

Shield, rock of salvation, my stronghold. To a man who faced physical danger, these were important. Notice David never declares that God does not love him or care for him. David talks like a guy who believes God is firmly on his side.

I will call on the Lord who is worthy to be praised! So shall I be saved from my enemies. Nothing in there about maybe or hope so or we'll see. David is strong in his declarations.

But we have to look at David's life to see the verification of his confidence. David had challenges, but he also had victories. Many victories. And David was well aware of the source of those victories. He knew where he would be without God, and he was quick to give God glory and praise. David is one of the best biblical examples of confidence in God.

APPLICATION:

If you spend any time around me, you'll hear me discuss my wife, Joy, in glowing terms. I have a great love for her and a great trust in her. I am certainly not ashamed of her. I want to be that very same way about my Heavenly Father. If you get around me, you'll hear me declare my love and trust for my great God. I never want to come off as timid or ashamed of Him. If you want to join me on my quest, then practice declaring who God is to you in private. The stronger we are in expressing our confidence in God, the more our confidence will grow. Let's don't wait for God to initiate our declarations of love and trust. This is on us. Let's go!

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, You are my source and the strength of my life. I love You and trust You and I know You will help me. Thank You for Your mercy and for Your great love. I am so glad You are on my side!
