LET THE LORD BE MAGNIFIED

PSALM 35:27-28 NKJ 
27 Let them shout for joy and be glad, 
Who favor my righteous cause; 
And let them say continually, 
"Let the Lord be magnified, 
Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant." 
28 And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness 
And of Your praise all the day long. 

 Anything we magnify gets bigger. You will reach a certain age where you need reading glasses. I'm not trying to be negative; those are just the facts. Readers magnify the writing or numbers or menu. And while we are sharing all this vital information, you will need more than one pair, and you'll need them all over the house and your car.   

But back to my initial idea. What we magnify does not change the dimensions of the actual object; it just changes it in our eyes. Readers don't make the actual menu bigger, but they make the menu bigger to us.   

What does this have to do with the Lord? Actually, quite a lot.   

Magnify the Lord. Let the Lord be magnified. The word magnified means to make great. It can mean to cause something to grow. So, when we magnify the Lord, we are not changing Him or causing Him to grow. We are not making Him great because He is already great. But what we are doing is making Him great to us. We are causing Him to grow in our awareness and consciousness. He is magnified in our lives, bigger to us.   

One of the reasons we are magnifying God is because He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. When you hear the word prosperity, try not to associate the word with a negative label. The word means completeness, soundness, welfare, peace. It's the Hebrew word shalom. And shalom is a big word. It is used 237 times in the Old Testament and has many different usages, and none of them are bad. It's a good word, and God takes pleasure when His servants have shalom, prosperity in their spirits, minds, emotions, and bodies. Shalom in their homes, which rhymes, but is sure a blessing. God has pleasure in the one He loves having peace, completeness, soundness, prosperity in their lives. We want a God this good to be magnified. 

APPLICATION: 

One of the key ways to magnify anything is to talk about it. Talk about problems, and they get bigger. Talk about God, give Him praise with your mouth, and He gets bigger to you. Maybe that's why David wrote, "let them say continually." Whatever we say continuously grows in our minds and consciousness. So let the Lord be magnified.   

PRAYER: 

Lord, may I learn to speak of Your righteousness and Your praise all the day long. Be magnified in my life.
