HELP FROM THE LORD

PSALM 94:12-13, 17-19 NKJ
12 Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord,
And teach out of Your law,
13 That You may give him rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked. 17 Unless the Lord had been my help,
My soul would soon have settled in silence.
18 If I say, “My foot slips,”
Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.
19 In the multitude of my anxieties within me,
Your comforts delight my soul.

These are great verses that reveal David's heart and perspective on God's help.

There is relief/rest from the days of adversity as we get greater insight into God's word/law.

Because of the Lord's help, we don't slip quietly into the dark night. We have answers.  When we feel as if we are slipping, we can depend on God's mercy to hold us up.

And verse nineteen paints such a strong picture.  Even though I have a multitude of anxious thoughts, God's comforts bring such great help to my soul.

APPLICATION

If we don't know what God can and will do for us, we don't have a foothold for our faith.  But if we know He can give us insight, from His word, into solving our challenges.  If we know God will help us, we don't stand speechless and quiet when problems plague us.  If we know God's mercy is greater than our mistakes, we are not as quickly derailed by condemnation.  And if we know we can look to God for comfort, that He is not the One causing the anxiety in our lives, then we will resist the anxious thoughts.

When we know we can look to God for help and how His help comes, it puts us in an entirely different position.

We can adopt the posture of one who knows they have an advantage.  Someone who knows they are not alone.

PRAYER

Thank you, Father, that we can look to You for instruction, mercy, help, and comfort.  You are better than we have given you credit for.
