BECOMING AN OVERCOMER

REVELATION 12:10-11 NKJ
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

I thought we would go back to the book of Revelation for these verses.  These two verses give us insight into the role of Satan and how we are able to overcome him and his works.

Satan here is called the accuser of the brethren.  He is the one accusing believers before God.  This is one of his greatest tactics.  He constantly accuses us of things we have done and things we have not done. When we listen to his accusations, we are thrown off balance and lose confidence with God. If you have confessed your sins to God, you are forgiven and cleansed. But if you listen to Satan's lies, you can find yourself in despair over things that happened years ago. The Lord is not reminding and accusing you of past faults; Satan is.

So how do we overcome Satan and his lies?  We put our confidence in the blood of Jesus.  That blood paid the price for our sins and made us right before God.  Our faith is in Jesus' blood, not our works or goodness.

And we overcome by the word of our testimony.  We have something to say about what Jesus has done for us.  Declaring who we are and what Jesus had done in His victory over Satan is important. We declare what we believe from scriptures, not what we feel. And we most certainly avoid echoing Satan’s accusations.

Jesus’ blood and our words are two of the most important tools for overcoming our enemy.

APPLICATION:

Declaring what Jesus has done for us is a powerful weapon to use against Satan’s strategies. Do not let yourself get caught in the trap of only speaking about how you feel and how things appear. That is playing on Satan's ground. Take the advantage given to us by the Lord. His blood has cleansed us, and His victory has become our victory. Say that instead.

Proverbs 18:21 tells us death and life are in the power of the tongue.  Use your tongue to speak words of life and join the ranks of the blood-bought children of God, the overcomers.

PRAYER:

Thank you, Father.  I overcome by Jesus' blood and by my words agreeing with the victory He bought for me.
